Former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas accuses Premier League club’s board of ‘destroying everything’ he had created
Andre Villas-Boas has criticised Tottenham’s board, claiming they “destroyed everything” he and his coaching staff created at the club. The Portuguese was appointed Spurs boss in July 2012 and had a positive first season before his reign came to an end in December 2013, midway through a difficult second campaign.Villas-Boas’ final game in charge of Spurs was a 5-0 defeat at home to Liverpool2

And in an explosive interview with Corriere dello Sport, Villas-Boas didn’t hold back on his time in north London where he also revealed he turned down an offer from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his first season at Spurs.Villas-Boas said:“The first season was magnificent in all aspects. We had a ‘short’ squad in terms of depth, but a great spirit and so much will.”“We picked up the most points in Spurs’ historywith an incredible Bale who played behind Adebayor where he was free to move, but also with Lennon and Walker who allowed us to have a good counter-attacking 4-4-2.”Villas-Boas had a good relationship with Gareth Bale and was in charge when the Welshman was sold to Real Madrid2

“I got an offer from Paris Saint-Germain, who wanted me, but I said no out of love for Tottenham. Maybe that was a mistake.”The former Chelsea boss went on to criticise the Spurs board, headed by chairman Daniel Levy for their responses to his transfer requests. He said: “In April, we started planning for the next season. I offered some names to buy and sell, but during the transfer window, the board didnt listen and quickly destroyed everything wed created.”Not a lot has appeared to change at the club since with Spurs becoming the first Premier League team to not make a single summer signing during the last transfer window. The delay of their new stadium also adds to their dramas in what has been a turbulent season off the pitch.Villas-Boas, 41, reportedly turned down the Fulham job – a role that was given to Claudio Ranieri after the Cottagers sacked Slavisa Jokanovic.Villas-Boas’ last job saw him manage Shanghai SIPG from November 2016 to November 2017.
