Tottenham vs Bournemouth: The bizarre Arsenal record Spurs can match on Boxing Day
Tottenham face Bournemouth on Boxing Day knowing they could end the day second in the Premier League table.A defeat of the Cherries would move Spurs onto 45 points, taking them above Manchester City should Pep Guardiola’s side suffer a third defeat in four matches when they face Leicester. The north Londoners would undeniably be in the title race if they sit second at the end of the Boxing Day fixtures, while there is another reason Tottenham will want the win today – to match a record currently held by local rivals Arsenal.Mauricio Pochettino’s side are an outside bet in the Premier League title race1

Spurs have not drawn a single one of their opening 18 Premier League matches, winning 14 and losing the other four. The last team to go longer without a draw since the start of a top flight campaign was the Gunners, all the way back in 1983/84.Arsenal won nine and lost 10 of the 19 matches they played before drawing, with Birmingham City the first team to hold Arsenal, claiming a 1-1 draw at Highbury on December 27. Back then, Arsenal could be forgiven for only managing a draw in what was their 19th fixture of the season, seeing as they beat Tottenham 4-2 in the north London derby in their previous match – which was played just ONE day earlier, on Boxing Day 1983.Should Tottenham either win or lose against Bournemouth today, they will match Arsenal’s record of 19 games without a draw from the beginning of a top flight campaign, and they will then be hoping to break the bizarre record when Wolves visit Wembleyon December 29.
