According to HLN, the Belgium international was not seen re-emerging with his team-mates after the full-time whistle to celebrate with the fans on the pitch. He then left the stadium via a back exit rather than through the mixed zone.Vertonghen was then photographed getting on the team bus with a protective boot on his right foot.It is unclear how he sustained the injury, but Vertonghen did take part in Tottenham’s wild celebrations immediately following the full-time whistle. Reports on Thursday claimed the injury is not too serious, with the crutches only a precaution due to a ‘minor’ ankle issue. The 32-year-old played Wednesday’s match in a face mask to protect his nose after injuring it during last week’s first leg tie.
