Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri critical of N’Golo Kante for trying to ‘solve the match’ in defeat at Tottenham
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has voiced his frustration with the performance of N’Golo Kante inthe 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. It was a first loss of the season at Wembley for Chelsea who turned in a woeful display as they were outplayed in the London derby, bringing an end to their 18-match unbeaten run.Maurizio Sarri was not pleased with the performance of N’Golo Kante2

Unimpressed, Sarri was critical of his players and was particularly vocal regarding the normally reliable Kante, admitting he does not want the Frenchman to play centrally despite calls for him to return to the role in which he has previously excelled.“As you know, I want to play a central midfielder as a very technical player a Jorginho or Cesc Fbregas, Sarri said. I dont want Kant in this position.“Kant, in the last match, wanted to solve the match after the first 15 minutes but in the wrong way. He lost his position. He attacked too much the other box. And I think this is not one of the best characteristics of Kant, but it was only a reaction to the difficulties.Sarri says he had to speak to his players individually2

Maybe its only a question of time before he learns the role. But when the ball is on the other side, the left, Kant has to stay very close to Jorginho. So perplexed was Sarri as to the nature of Saturday’s loss, he had one-to-one meetings with each individual in order for them to explain what he deemed as a lack of determination. “I talked to them player by player, a meeting of five to 10 minutes with the individuals.“Its very difficult for them, I think, to tell me why. Very difficult. Somebody told me that, maybe, the international break was a problem; that it was a problem to be immediately ready at 100%, but I dont know.”Chelsea are in Europa League action on Thursday when they take on PAOK Salonikaa and Sarri is expected to rest the majority of his side, including Kante.Eden Hazard is out with an ankle problem.Sarri said: “I am worried because 25 days ago he had a back injury. Now an ankle.“He has lost a lot of training. It’s normal at the moment he isn’t at the top of his physical condition.”
